Learn financial literacy while playing AND doing homework

How it all began
In 2022, a project named "The Fair" was launched on the private school "Happy Generation" in St. Petersburg. The children started collecting points for doing their homework, which by the end of the month were exchanged for the game currency - "Lucky Ones", with which they could buy goods at "The Fair". The goods at the fair (such as sweets and office supplies) were bought by the parents. The children had to make their own decisions about what to buy from the goods displayed. They could decide to save money or keep it in "The Bank" for the next month. The Fair took place by the end of which month.

The "FinFun" game is designed to be played throughout 4 SEMESTERS, 2 semesters per year.

Why FinFun?

There are so many reasons why you should implement it at your school. The children will learn:

  • Responsibility
Children make their own decision to do their homework. They develop an important quality of responsibility for decision-taking.
  • Value of money and hard work
From an early age, they understand that earning means working hard. There is an awareness for the value of money.
  • Independence
Interacting with money without parental control is a step towards developing independence and the ability to make choices.
  • A good connection with the teacher
As the teacher is a participant in the game, the children establish a stronger connection with her/him.
  • Practice
The game is designed to be played for 4 semesters. It is only through a systematic approach that sustainable knowledge in the field of financial literacy is formed.

Reviews from Parents, Teachers and Children
  • An amazing financial game! My child has been waiting for a single day in a month for two years in a row (the last school day of the month) - this is the opening day of the FinFun store. It's great that children are motivated to do their homework on their own. I don't have to remind him of that.
Thank you very much Lyudmila Evgenievna

  • ·The topic of financial literacy for children has been actively introduced in all educational institutions over the past decade. But the quality of this project is beyond expectation. For two years at the Happy Generation School (St. Petersburg) Lyudmila Evgenievna combined different techniques and polished her own findings in practice to teach the children reasonable financial behavior. Children love financial literacy lessons and already in the third grade have experience in earning income and investing, know about financial instruments and easily calculate the cost of goods. As a school principal, I highly recommend this project for wide implementation.

  • My child has been studying at the Happy Generation School for the 4th year. Since the 2nd grade, our teacher has introduced a game method for studying financial literacy. Children receive salaries and spend them at the Fair. Every time a child brings home her purchases, I see incredible happiness and pride that she bought all this with her OWN money! I can feel my daughter growing up. Independence began to manifest itself in other areas of life. She has become a better student, more collected. Many thanks to Lyudmila Evgenievna for her contribution to the financial development of our children.

  • My son is already in the 6th grade of the 438 school in the village of Lisiy Nos. This year, the homeroom teacher offered to participate in the FINFUN financial literacy game. I am very glad that now the child's studies have become more interesting. I don't have to control whether he's done his homework. Every day he calculates his salary. It's great that teachers in ordinary schools bring diversity to the learning process. The main thing is that the child runs to school. Studying financial literacy, maybe my son will teach me something.
